The Chochmat Community

Chochmat is a diverse community of individuals and families that recognizes that a true experience of spirituality, one-ness and connectedness happens amongst our peers. We provide opportunities for people to come together in regularly scheduled events but also support the formation of community groups—a grassroots approach--to worship, celebration and community service.

Many small groups have started here and you are welcome to join any that spark your curiosity or reflect your interests.  Whether you are interested in issues of eco-Judaism, feminist ritual, music, child-rearing, volunteerism, or something different—there is a group for you here. Or, you are encouraged to start your own gathering!

Browse below for small groups that may appeal to you:

My.Chochmat.Org

You are invited to connect with other community members using our stand-alone community website—my.chochmat.org.  It provides a forum and a classifieds for community members to reach out to one another, to get community information or to publicize your own. A virtual community bulletin board. Please visit my.chochmat.org and sign up today!

Art Shows

There are many ways of worship and we are blessed to be part of a very expressive community. Four times per year, professional and amateur artists come together to create and showcase their work on various Jewish subjects. The shows are curated by Karel Herrington, and for more information on the current show, please click here.

Simchat-Lev Yeshiva

Founded in 2007, under the auspices or our Rabbi Avram Davis, this progressive Yeshiva combines deep learning and tradition with empowering, progressive values, such as equalities for all genders, sexualities and ethnic backgrounds, and a strong environmental ethos. Its central holding is that the Torah is a source of joy and deep primordial wisdom and a place of spiritual learning for all people. For more information, please visit yeshivasimchatlev.org.

JACTS: Jewish Arts Culture Torah School

We welcome and encourage children and families in any configuration. Chochmat is associated with JACTS--a beautiful and loving supplemental school for children ages four years through bar/bat mitzvah. Led by Rabbi Sara Shendelman, the school seeks to empower children in expressing their inner Divine and to enable parents to see their children as central to their spiritual path. For more information on JACTS.
